About

The multimedia journal boundaries + crossings is beginning a two year bi-lingual project sharing the stories of people trying to create healthier cities; beginning with Beijing and New York. We are looking to publish online, in print and on the street.

BOUNDARIES + Crossings

We plan to interrupt the digital transmissions and to create new transmissions, to get people talking to each other in their communities. We are not publishing the stories of some distant place, but the stories right in Beijing and New York; Daxing talking to Shunyi, Brooklyn talking to the Bronx.

Our first issue looks at stories of food, what we eat and how we eat it and what it says about how we live in our cities. We are looking for the stories of the food growers, the food transporters, the sellers. We are looking for the stories of what we eat, what time we eat and where we eat. The stories can be academic, poetry, prose, audio recordings, moving and still images.  All material will be translated into Chinese and English as needed.

boundaries + crossings  is a multidisciplinary journal published by imagining global asia (iga) that showcases the beauty and struggles of daily life through creative and scholarly work. Started in 2007 with a focus on the people and cultures of Asia, boundaries explores contemporary issues from culture to politics and looks concretely at these issues through the experiences of people’s daily lives. Past work has looked at Vietnamese-Americans visiting Vietnam, the Korean Diaspora in Argentina and the boundaries created by one’s accent in New York.  We publish online, in print and on the street; the multimedia web form of the journal addresses the dynamic and disjunct nature of our object of study.
